Just before I fall asleep
I sometimes feel 100 feet
larger than my snoozing room
while dreams are coming soon
In waking life my scale is set
but in sleeping I may forget
am I really one size tall
or could I be gigantical?
or am I just 2 inches small
a tiny gnomish sleeping doll
could I be smaller still
like plankton or a krill
are we microscopic fish
living in a Petri dish?
then again I quickly grow
my mind and body do not know
are we truly human size
or gargantuan always?
most creatures after all
are very, very, very small
since a child I felt these things
just before the sandman sings
just before I fall sleep
while my mind is counting sheep
